Atomic Bomb Photo: 3 Questions

Answer the following 3 questions about the above photographs:

  1. What is happening in these photos? Be detailed and specific.
  2. Based on the photos and the video, what do you think happened to the people who lived in these cities? Were there possibly any long term consequences?
  3. Write a strongly worded statement for or against the use of the atomic bombs on Japan.

HW Instructions Thursday Night

  • Create at least 3 meaningful text dependent questions for “The Black Stallion”, using yesterday’s TDQ’s as a template. Loose paper.

  • Read both informational texts about the first atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan during WWII. Then, use a highlighter to and highlight the main idea and supporting details for each article.

  • Create an introductory paragraph for an opinion paper. Take a stand on the following prompt: Should the United States have dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, yes or no?

1) Cite at least one (1) piece of evidence from the introduction to this passage that the author uses for to introduce the story structure for each of the two (2) conflicts we identified in class yesterday.

2) Write about two (2) points in the story when Alec and The Black Stallion's relationship changed or took a next step.

3) What things did Alec need to survive? How did he meet that need? Would you have done anything differently?

4) On pg 605, paragraph 2, it says, "The fire burned low, then it smoldered."
Based on the context, what is the meaning of the underlined word?"

5) Write about 2 instances in which one or more of Alec's character traits are revealed through his actions?

6) Pg 607, paragraph 2: Based on context clues, name at least two (2) synonyms for the word "flirted". Next, cite the specific context clue that helped you make your decision.

7) How do the illustrations in the story help the reader better understand the story? Cite two (2) instances in the passage where this occurs and explain your answer.
